The Bayou Knights of the Ku Klux Klan hold a rally and cross lighting just outside the town of Smackover, Arkansas. With many Klansmen traveling hundreds of miles with their wives and children to attend, the rally maintained a family atmosphere. Klan security were armed and only allowed pre-invited or carefully selected attendees. The cross lighting, held shortly after sunset, signifies the Klan’s devotion to Christianity and is seen as a beacon in the night.
